Early Life
Betsy Johnson was born in Pennsylvania in 1756. Her family moved to Kentucky in 1775, and they settled at Bryan Station, a frontier outpost near Lexington.
Betsy was a skilled frontierswoman. She was an expert shot and could handle a tomahawk with ease. She was also a strong and courageous woman, and she was not afraid to stand up to danger.
The Siege of Bryan Station
In August 1782, Bryan Station was attacked by a large force of Native Americans and British loyalists. The station was defended by a small garrison of Kentucky militiamen, and Betsy Johnson played a vital role in the defense.
