The Texas Revolution

The Texas Revolution began in 1835, when the Mexican government attempted to disarm the American settlers in Texas. The settlers, who had been promised land and self-government by the Mexican government, resisted and declared their independence from Mexico. The Mexican government sent an army to Texas to put down the rebellion, but the Texan army, led by Sam Houston, defeated the Mexican army at the Battle of San Jacinto in 1836. After the battle, the Texan army captured Mexican President Antonio López de Santa Anna, who signed a treaty recognizing the independence of Texas.

The Republic of Texas

The Republic of Texas was a sovereign state for nine years. During that time, it adopted a constitution, elected a government, and established a system of laws. The Republic of Texas also fought off several attempts by Mexico to reconquer it. In 1845, the Republic of Texas was annexed by the United States.

The Lone Star Flag

The Lone Star Flag is the official flag of the state of Texas. It was designed by Burnet and Anson Jones and was adopted by the Texas Congress in 1839. The flag has a single white star on a blue field, representing the hope for independence and the new beginning of the Republic of Texas.

Sam Houston

Sam Houston was a key figure in the Texas Revolution and the Republic of Texas. He was the first president of the Republic of Texas and served two terms in office. Houston was a brilliant military leader and a skilled politician. He is considered one of the greatest heroes of Texas history.

The Alamo

The Alamo is a historic mission in San Antonio, Texas. It was the site of a famous battle during the Texas Revolution. In 1836, a group of Texan defenders held out against a much larger Mexican army for 13 days. The defenders were eventually defeated, but their sacrifice helped to inspire the Texan army to victory at the Battle of San Jacinto.

The Texas Rangers

The Texas Rangers are a law enforcement agency in Texas. They were founded in 1823 to protect the settlers on the Texas frontier. The Texas Rangers have a long and distinguished history, and they continue to play an important role in law enforcement in Texas today.

The Liberty of Texas

The fight for the liberty of Texas is a story of courage, determination, and sacrifice. The Texan settlers who fought for their independence from Mexico were outnumbered and outgunned, but they refused to give up. They fought for their freedom and their way of life, and they eventually won their independence.

The Republic of Texas was a short-lived nation, but it played an important role in the history of the United States. The Texan settlers who founded the Republic of Texas were pioneers, and they helped to shape the American West. The Republic of Texas is a reminder that freedom is never free, and that it must be fought for and defended.
