Early Life and Education

Antonin Scalia was born in Trenton, New Jersey, on March 11, 1936. His parents were Italian immigrants. Scalia attended Regis High School, a Jesuit boarding school in New York City. He then studied history at Georgetown University, where he graduated summa cum laude in 1957. Scalia went on to Harvard Law School, where he graduated magna cum laude in 1960.

Early Career

After law school, Scalia clerked for Justice Tom Clark of the Supreme Court. He then worked as a private attorney in Cleveland, Ohio. In 1971, Scalia was appointed to the University of Chicago Law School faculty. He taught there for 15 years, specializing in constitutional law.

Supreme Court Justice

In 1986, President Ronald Reagan nominated Scalia to the Supreme Court. Scalia was confirmed by the Senate by a vote of 98-0. He served on the Court for 30 years, until his death in 2016.

Scalia was a conservative justice. He believed that the Constitution should be interpreted according to its original meaning. He was also a strong advocate for states' rights.

Scalia was a controversial figure. He was often criticized for his sharp wit and his willingness to express his opinions. However, he was also respected for his intellect and his commitment to the rule of law.

Legacy
