Instructions:

With main color, chain 4 and join to form a ring.
Round 1: Ch 3 (counts as first dc),2 dc in ring, ch 2, *3 dc in ring, ch 2; repeat from * 3 more times, join with sl st to top of ch 3.
Round 2: Ch 3 (counts as first dc),2 dc in each ch-2 space around, join with sl st to top of ch 3.
Round 3: Ch 3 (counts as first dc),2 dc in each dc around, join with sl st to top of ch 3.
Repeat rounds 2 and 3 until square measures approximately 10 inches square.
Change to contrast color and work round 4 as follows: ch 3, 2 dc in each dc around, join with sl st to top of ch 3.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
To make purse, fold square in half and sew sides together. Attach a handle to each side.

Notes:

You can use any type of yarn you like, but worsted weight yarn is a good option for beginners.
