Erich Geiger was a German director who worked in the post-war years in Dresden. He was born in 1905 in the city of Dresden, and he studied theatre at the Dresden Conservatory. After graduating, he worked as a director at several theatres in Germany, including the Deutsches Theater in Berlin.

In 1945, Geiger returned to Dresden, which had been heavily damaged by Allied bombing during the war. He was appointed director of the Staatsschauspiel Dresden, the city's main theatre company. Geiger's first task was to rebuild the theatre company and find a new home for it. The theatre's original building had been destroyed in the bombing, and Geiger had to find a temporary home for the company while a new building was constructed.

Geiger also had to deal with the challenge of finding actors and other theatre professionals who had survived the war. Many of the theatre's former actors and staff had been killed or injured in the bombing, and Geiger had to find new people to fill these roles.
